Football can seem complicated and confusing for the new fan, but it is really a game of numbers, and once you learn the basics you can enjoy the game along with the rest, and the best, of fans. So get comfortable and get ready for some football.
Let's start with a little football history.
Football 101
The object of the game:
- Football is a game of territory and strategy.
- There are 22 players (11 per team) on the field at one time.
- The NFL game is made up of four 15-minute quarters, plus a 15-minute sudden death overtime if the score is tied at the end of regulation play.
- A 12-minute halftime is taken between the second and third quarters.
- Each team is entitled to 3 time-outs per half.
