 Another fabulous day for British Formula One racecar driver Jenson Button, who won his sixth victory this season in seven races. Button passed Sebastian Vettel who started in pole position for the lead early on in the race, and then continued to dominate, taking the checkered flag. Leading in points, Button has only lost one race this season, and that was to Vettel. And while it looks like there is no stopping Jenson Button and his powerhouse team Brawn GP, a FI championship title seems very likely. Not bad for Button who previously only won one race of his Formula One career, that is, until the 09 season. Now, he seems unstoppable. Too fast for the other drivers, too fast for the other teams, Jenson Button has finally moved into the spotlight, and he is definitely enjoying every minute of it. And it is about time!
Without a doubt, Jenson Button deserves the praise, fans, and groups of girls that scream every time he stands in the center of the podium. With his dishy good looks and smile, Jenson Button is having the best year of his life, the best racing season of his career, and it is all thanks to his new team, new car, and a bit of luck. And while other racecar drivers are having a disappointing season like past FI championship winner Fernando Alonso, and last year's FI championship winner Lewis Hamilton, two, young, talented racers have emerged into the limelight, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel who won pole for the Turkish Grand Prix finished third, while his teammate Mark Webber finished second. Vettel is the only racer to have won a race this season in Formula One besides Jenson Button. Second in points, Vettel still has a long way to go in order to beat Button for the championship title, but it seems that he is the only racer so far to challenge him. And then there is Nico Rosberg who started ninth in today's race and finished fifth, his first top five finish in the 09 season. This talented racer looks to have a bright future ahead of him like Vettel, and a first place finish is definitely within reach.
And while most racing fans were watching Nascar or IRL this Sunday afternoon, I was watching Formula One, the echelon of open-wheel racing, that is, after I watched the spectacular French Open earlier in the morning. Watching Roger Federer win his first French Open title was incredible. Seeing him finally win this Grand Slam was history making. Tied with Pete Sampras now with fourteen Grand Slam single titles, if he wins Wimbledon, he will have fifteen, and I want to see that. Then he can go on and win the U.S. Open, and then he can retire, if he wants. Some might say he is one of the greatest players to ever play the sport, but I would say, Roger Federer is the best tennis player to ever play the sport. He is certainly the best player of our generation. And while we wait for Wimbledon, next up in the Formula One racing circuit, the British Grand Prix, and that is one race I most certainly want to see.
