The best two quarterbacks in college football played this week in the final bowl games of the season. First, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy took his Longhorns to a victory over Ohio State. The first half of the game they came out sluggish, but after halftime, McCoy and the rest of his teammates looked like the great Texas football team they were all year. McCoy started running with the ball, taking fast counts, which took the defense off guard, enabling them to get touchdowns. A close game, but when it came down to the final few minutes, the Longhorns showed everyone that they should have been ranked No. 1 all along, and should have been playing in the BCS title bowl game instead of Oklahoma.
Next, there is Florida quarterback Tim Tebow who got his team to another BCS bowl game, and a victory over the Sooners. Although Oklahoma is ranked No. 1, and they have this year's Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford as quarterback, that was not enough to overtake the Gators, as Florida showed everyone why they are so good. Ranked No. 2 coming into this game, they just overpowered and overplayed the Sooners. Even though Tebow did throw two interceptions, their defense held Oklahoma's offense, and rattled Bradford, enabling them to take the win.
Proving their eminence once again, Florida has won two BCS title bowl games within three years. Now that is impressive, but I would have liked to seen a match up between Florida and Texas. I think they would have been more evenly matched. McCoy against Tebow I think would have been a better test of greats than Tebow against Bradford. Texas already had proven they were meant to be in that game by beating the Sooners earlier in the year, but the voters decided otherwise and chose them over the Longhorns. That is the bad thing about voting, everyone has favorites, and sometimes the most deserving team does not end up playing in the championship game.
Now with college football bowl games over with, football fans only have professional football left, leading towards the Super Bowl, and then they have to wait till next season starting up again in fall. That is a long time to wait to watch football, and arena football is just not the same if you know what I mean. Perhaps the States should start playing rugby, professionally, like they do over in England. It is by far a fun, fast, contact sport just like football, a game I would definitely want to watch.
