Owners of some of the top running backs finally saw the big numbers they wanted out of their early picks. This was a great week for Tomlinson, Jackson, and Johnson owners. Although we are approaching week 5, there are still some worthy names on the waiver wires. Some of these players, along with the latest injury information are included below:
Steelers - Rashard Mendenhall has suffered a season ending shoulder injury. With Willie Parker expected to remain out with a knee sprain, Mewelde Moore may get his first start this week. Parker owners should attempt the handcuff on this week's wire if Moore is available.
Raiders - With Jamarcus Russell beginning to have some productivity through the air, a name to watch is Johnnie Lee Higgins. He was targeted 7 times in week 4 and ended up with 4 receptions for 35 yards. Zach Miller also had a good week with 5 receptions, 95 yards, and a touchdown. He's a good target for the young QB and should be taken in all leagues where a TE is required. The Raiders are on the bye in week 5 and Justin Fargas is expected to return in week 6.
Patriots - The Patriots are known for good performances coming off the bye week. You should give your Patriots starters another chance to prove themselves. If they disappoint again, we may have to begin to say crazy things like "bench Randy Moss".
Saints - Lance Moore had a big week with 7 receptions, 101 yards, and 2 TDs. With David Patten continuing to get dinged up, Moore and Robert Meachum are worth a look on the wire. Deuce McAllister returned to the line-up and helped the offense with 20 carries, 73 yards, and a touchdown. This could mean a downgrade for Bush owners, particularly in non-PPR leagues.
Titans - Kerry Collins continues to be productive. Justin Gage had 5 receptions for 92 yards. He may be available in many leagues, and although it's too early to suggest starting him each week, you should consider adding him to your bench.
Packers - Aaron Rogers suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's game. He has indicated that he wants to play this week, but the team is preparing Matt Flynn in the event Rogers cannot go. The team indicated they should have a better idea as to his status after Wednesday's practice.
Ravens - I hope you took my advice and ensured that LaRon McCain was secured in your league. Willis McGahee suffered a chest injury in Monday night's game and his status is uncertain.
Cardinals - Anquan Boldin was taken to the hospital after a crushing hit in the game against the Bills. All indications are that his injuries aren't serious, but his status for this week is unknown at this point.
Bills - Fred Jackson is worth a look, especially for Marshawn Lynch owners. He spelled Lynch this week and ended up with 46 yards on 7 carries, including a 22 yard touchdown.
Cowboys - Last week I suggested that you look at Miles Austin on the waiver wires. He had another touchdown in Week 4 which means his price is getting higher.
Seahawks - The word out of Seattle is that both Branch and Engram are expected back this week. There is some talk about easing them back into action, so it might be too early to insert them in your line-up, but both should be taken off of the wires now.
Rams - Trent Green did improve the offensive production in Week 4. He was able to find Steven Jackson 7 times out of the backfield, helping Jackson to have his breakout game. Of concern is an injury to TE Randy McMichael. You should check on his status later in the week.
Eagles - Well, Brian Westbrook finally sat out of a game where he was listed as questionable. It looks like many owners took a chance based on his history. Correll Buckhalter got dinged up and did not provide explosiveness in relief. The Westbrook injury report watch marches on, but it looks like he should play in week 5. Reggie Brown saw his first action in week 4 leading the team with 6 receptions for 79 yards. Some teams may have dropped him in early wire activity. If he's available, you should take him.
49ers -Arnaz Battle had a very productive week with 7 receptions and 120 yards. With Bryant Johnson appearing to fade, Battle is worth a look on the wires.
Bengals - Many Carson Palmer owners didn't get the late news in time regarding his game status and ended up taking a goose egg. Even more concerning is that information is not forthcoming and the rumor mills are active with reports that his injury could be serious. Ryan Fitzpatrick is currently his replacement which doesn't make TJ Housh or Ocho Cinco owners very comfortable.
Jaguars - Jerry Porter returned to the lineup this week. Although he only had 1 reception for 6 yards, he's worth keeping an eye on. Matt Jones' early success apparently is no fluke.
Until next week.may all of your fantasy dreams come true. |
