Pete Prisco had to have compiled his top 50 list as some sort of a joke.at least we hope that it was a joke.

Most people know that I am a very opinionated woman when it comes to football, but I'm not preposterous, ludicrous, or downright comical with my assertions. Pete Prisco, on the other hand, is. Prisco came up with a list of the top 50 (current) NFL players. People the list is a joke. Yes, I said it. A joke.

On June 25, 2008, Prisco's story, Top 50: Chill, New England , there's no denying Brady now , was published on sportsline.com. No one in the world of football seems to agree with the list except for the author of it. Now, I'm not crazy. I know that you will never get everyone to agree on each and every list or ranking that we release in the football world (I know personally because the power rankings on my site have caused some turmoil), but usually things are similar or they can be easily justified. There is absolutely no justification for the list Prisco came up with. I am guessing that he needed a story, had a deadline that was near, and was becoming very tired trying to meet his deadline with no red bull in sight to "give him wings." Hey, if that was the scenario, then I understand why the list looks the way that it does and I am not mad at him. He just needs to apologize for the absurdity of the list and we will all be very forgiving.

Maybe some of us will be more forgiving than others. Osi Umenyiora of the World Champion New York Giants seemed to be pretty upset about the list on NFL Network's Put Your Dukes Up . I understand his [Umenyiora] annoyance because of the men who are either ranked on the list or made the "just missed" portion of the list, there were several other players who were much more deserving (and I am saying this because if need be, I can direct you to the statistics to prove it) and were not even mentioned on the list.

Umenyiora called out one of the most obvious and one of the first huge mistakes on Prisco's list. His (and my) biggest problem is with number six on the list, Mario Williams. Although, he looked better this past season than he did his rookie season, he still has not led his team to a playoff game. What is more preposterous than him being ranked number six, is what Prisco stated about the Texans and choosing Williams. He comments that, " Williams is making the Texans proud for passing on Reggie Bush and Vince Young to take this pass rusher. He might have been the leagues best defensive player in the final eight weeks of 2007."

First of all, Bush and Young have participated in the playoffs while Williams has only sat by to idly watch. Secondly, how do you make a top 50 list based on the last eight weeks of one season? Now, if Prisco meant that the Texans were more in need of a DE than a RB or QB, I disagree, but I could at least tolerate that point. I would prefer for him to argue that point than to create this flight of fancy instead.

Another major issue that I have with the list is the rankings of the cornerbacks. Charles Woodson is the highest ranked CB on the list at number 18. How? Nate Clements, Deangelo Hall, Ronde Barber, Rashean Mathis, and Al Harris do not even make an appearance on the list. Here is yet another punchline to the list, Asante Samuel made it, but was ranked number 37.

Here is another good one; Devin Hester came in at number 50. The man who makes special teams re-strategize made the bottom of the list. Wow! I am so over this so called list. Sportsline.com should get someone to create a real list and delete Prisco's laughable absurdity forever.
