The NFL season has reached the half way mark and as we settle down to stuff our bellies with turkey, ham, yams, potatoes, pie, cheese, crackers, chips, dips, wine, beer and Cosmos, I am reminded of my pre-season predictions and feel a wave of nausea coming on. The ill effects are not due to overindulgence but, alas, to false expectations.

The World According to Favre is perhaps the most surprising of all NFL surprises this season. The Packers are 9-1 and Brett Favre is thriving with a team of young players and a second year head coach. The Cheese Stands Alone!

I was certain that Brett had made a mistake when he announced he was returning for yet another season of what I expected would be interception-filled games.

But no, Brett Favre-lous has made my prediction look as bad as my prediction that the 49ers would have a record of 10-6 and win the NFC West.
Ah so much pain permeating every pore of my body.

And so on this the eve of Thanksgiving I pay homage to the Cheese World, and am ready, albeit reluctantly, to pour a fondue's worth of melted cheese over the top of my head as I watch the Packers stand alone in their division.
