Through The Binoculars
By Jeanne McPartland
As the football season rounds the final curve, speculators begin to gather at the finish line. Who will beat who? Who will win the prized berths in the playoffs?
As we sit now, the AFC is on top of the Power Rankings. The Colts, AFC South with a record of 9-0 are clearly number one. The question is can they win the big one when given the opportunity? History might prove otherwise. Peyton Manning has the hands, the poise, and the name to get the job done. Tony Dungy clearly deserves his prize.
All the other teams fall in line way behind the Colts with 7-2 records.
The Broncos, AFC West, with Jake” the Snake” Plummer are team number two to borrow a line from the Amazing Race.
The Steelers AFC North with an injured starting quarterback may not be able to maintain third place.
Finally, in fourth place, we find the Panthers NFC South. Who would have thought this team would be the best the NFC had to offer? There is no stand out player unless you consider Julius Peppers, Stephen Davis or Jake Delhomme great.
The Seahawks NFC West and the Bengals AFC North round out fifth and sixth place in the Midseason Power Rankings Poll.
After the teams with 7-2 records we find many 6-3 teams who may not win their division but could win the wild card and with a little bit of luck go all the way to the Super Bowl.
To sum it all up, “It’s too soon to tell”.
