NFL Week 15: Far from the football fervor
Ivette Ricco
December 19, 2005
I have been away from home since December 7; when I left my home in northern California and headed to Puerto Rico to care for my ailing mom.
I wasn’t expecting to still be here, but here I am, spending the next 12 days in Puerto Rico.
Some may say, gee Puerto Rico sounds good to me, the sun, the beaches, the salsa, the Pina Coladas. You can fughetabout that, I am working my tail off from 7 am to 10 pm as I do virtually everything for mom.
And I couldn’t be farther away from football fervor than I am right now.
If you are as lucky as I am to live on the West Coast, a football fan, you can’t fully appreciate the luxury of watching football on Sunday while eating breakfast, lunch and dinner and still having the opportunity to find out what is going on Wisteria Lane.
On the East Coast the football clock begins right about, continues into dinner and then if you have the fortitude to stay awake past 11 pm you can watch the late game.
The football clock here in Puerto Rico is in a category of its own.
They are one hour later than the East Coast therefore the games start at 2 pm and end with the late Sunday game at 9:30 pm. If the game is a stinker (as last night’s Packers vs. Ravens game was) there is simply no drug known to man that can keep me awake for this final kickoff.
Let me whine, being so far from home, so far from my favorite chair, remote control, and my beautiful daughter hubbie and grandchildren I feel entitled.
And of course so far from the football fervor.
Thank you cable for keeping me connected in a disconnected Caribbean sort of way.
Week 15 action the highlights:
Lightning Bolts strike Colts
Chargers 26 Colts 17
The top story this week was the end of the Colts quest for a perfect season.
The game was a good one. The Chargers were hitting on all cylinders as they disrupted the Colts offense and manhandled their offensive line.
13-0 is still a milestone for the Colts and just maybe, the loss will work in their favor. The pressure is off and Coach Dungy can rest his starters as they prepare for the playoffs.
We are the Champions
Patriots 20 Bucs 0
The reigning Super Bowl Champion Patriots are clearly still capable of beating good teams as they proved on Saturday with a shutout of the Bucs.
Broncos 28 Bills 17
Giddy up Lil Doggie
The Broncos jumped on the Bills and never fell off clinching a playoff spot in the process.
Cowboys and Indians
Redskins 35 Cowboys 7
The Redskins 35-7 win over the Cowboys was an eye opener. The Redskins defense is finally showing off its talent and next week’s showdown between the Redskins and the Giants is reminiscent of the days when the NFC East was a powerful division
