Bengals, bangles bright shiny leads….

NFL Week Eleven
November 21, 2005

By Ivette Ricco

The Colts look every bit like this season's AFC champs. With an impressive 10-0 record they seem poised for a Super Bowl berth.
And then there are the Bengals. For them it's been a season right out of a Hollywood script with ole blue eyes singing in the background….

Bengals, bangles, hear how they win, wina-linga
Bengals, bangles, bright shiny leads
Sparkles, spangles, your heart will sing, singa-linga
With Bengals, bangles and leads

Bengals, bangles, hear how they bling, blinga-linga
Bengals, bangles, all those bright, shiny leads
Sparkles, spangles, your heart will sing, singa-linga
With those Bengals, bangles, and leads

You'll glitter and gleam so
Make Cincinatti dream so that
Some day they may win you a ring, ringa-linga
With those Bengals, bangles and leads….

Yes, those proverbial Bungals have finally earned some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Sunday they went head to head with the undefeated Colts in a shoot out.

Week 12 Picks follow at the end of this page*

Colts 45 Bengals 37

If you like watching a shoot-out there was no better game to watch than the Colts vs. Bengals this Sunday.

The final score was Colts 45 Bengals 37. Talk about bragging rights! These two teams know how to score points, the only question is, can they defend as efficiently as they score?

Both these teams have great fire-power. We all know about Peyton, and Edgerrin and Marvin. We’ve heard that the Colts defense is much improved, Yet, one has to wonder how they allowed the Bengals to stay in this game and score 37 points against them.

On the other side, you have a team that is hungry for recognition. Cincinnati, long thought of as perennial loser and a joke in the NFL finally has something to cheer about.
They have some terrific young talent, Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and Rudi Johnson. But what about their defense? Can it stand the test of time? They let the Colts score 45 points!

If the Colts and the Bengals represent the cream of the AFC crop (although I think the Broncos may have something to say about it) you might wonder if these defenses can hold up in the playoffs if they can’t contain an opponent’s offensive production.

Bucs 30 Falcons 27

Just when you thought it was safe to get into the water Tampa Bay rises up and takes Vick down.
Jon “Chucky” Gruden has the fans living on the edge of their seats. Last week they won on a risky two point conversion, this week they won because the Falcons missed a field goal attempt as time expired.
Honey, bring me my Prozac, quick!

Bears 13 Panthers 3

How “Bout Dem Bears!
Is it possible? The Bears are a huge surprise this season. They lead the NFC North and took care of a very hot Panthers offense by shutting them down. This Bears defense is turning some heads, and not just on the field.
How crazy a thought is this?
Super Bowl 40 – Colts vs. Bears, led by two African-American Head Coaches!

Ravens 16 Steelers 13

The Ravens took full advantage of the Big Ben-less moment. The Steelers are known for their running game but it all but disappeared against the Ravens defense. That’s all it took for the less than apparent Ravens offense to eek out a victory.

Giants 27 Eagles 17

Philly fans are watching their season go straight into the dumper.
Last season’s NFC Championship is just a fond memory. The Giants and Eli Manning bounced back from their crushing defeat at the hands of the Vikings last week to deflate the Eagles hopes for the 2005 NFL campaign.

Raiders 16 Redskins 13

The Raiders may not have a chance in hell to make the playoffs, but, Norv Turner exacted a little revenge for his pre-Christmas dismissal at the hands of Dan Snyder. The Raiders have talent, which makes their record all that more mystifying.

Jaguars 31 Titans 28

The Jaguars couldn’t run the ball but Byron Leftwich threw three touchdown passes to lead his Jags past the reeling Titans.

Browns 22 Dolphins 0
The Browns shut out the Dolphins, and they did it with defense and an overpowering running game. This is exactly why the Browns hired Romeo Crennel. The Fish had an awful offensive showing with Gus Frerotte and Sage Rosenfels combining for only 67 yards.

Cardinals 38 Rams 28
Here’s a bulletin – Cardinals upset the Rams 38-28. Whoa!
The Rams running back, Steven Jackson was held to six yards, and that is all you need to know. Kurt Warner torched his former team with three touchdowns.

Cowboys 20 Lions 7
The Cowboys and Lions play again in four days, but the turkey on Sunday was Detroit. Seconds anyone?

Patriots 24 Saints 17
The Patriots are not the dominant force we all know and love, but they have the heart of a champion and are leading the AFC North. That may be enough to give them an edge in December.

Seahawks 27 Niners 25

The Niners gave their Faithful fans something to cheer about on Sunday. After a touchdown drought lasting three games, the Niners scored twice in the fourth quarter to take the Seahawks to the brink, only to lose 25-27 with 28 seconds remaining and a missed two-point conversion left on the field. Still, it was a hopeful sign for the 2-8 49ers. The Hawks go to 8-2 and in control of their destiny.

Broncos 27 Jets 0

The Broncos had no problems with the quarterback depleted NY J-E-T-S shutting them out in the process.

Chargers 48 Bills 10

The Chargers have to stay the course as they attempt to reach the playoffs with a 5-4 record. This team has talent and two of the best players in the league, Drew Brees and LaDanian Tomlinson. They will need a little luck to get to the playoffs.

Chiefs 45 Texans 17

I watched this until I couldn’t take it anymore.
The Texans are moving in one direction, straight to the number one pick in the April draft. Johnson broke the Chiefs' rushing record with 211 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Kansas City to a 45-17 win over the hapless Houston Texans on Sunday night.

Vikings 20 Packers 17
Pity the Packers. The NFC North is no longer the Packers playground. The Bears are in first place and the Packers are in last.
Brett is forcing the ball in his typical gunslinger fashion. With talent and depth a problem in Green Bay, Brett is forced to try and make throws at ill-advised times.
The Vikings have responded well to Brad Johnson with three wins in a row and Mike Tice has managed to coach his team back into the race.
