Sacks
and the City

Sunday is my "Must See TV" night, but;
now Sunday night will be missing two key ingredients
to my Sunday fun, sex and violence, that is until
the Sopranos return in March.
"Is Sunday the night for Sex and playing with
men, or is Sunday a night for Football and watching
men play? And if you can neither watch them play or
play with them, is life really worth living?"
Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and slutty Samantha said
farewell on Sunday, February 23rd. Not only do I have
to deal with the loss of my Sunday football fix, but
must also face Sundays without my regular chick fix.
No sex, and no violence, how boring can life get?

The "gals" have kept me enthralled right
from the first X-rated episode. Until "Sex"
men didn't realize just how raunchy women could be.
Until "Sex" most men and even some women
didn't understand the camaraderie women share as they
fling F-bombs and sip Cosmos while comparing men's
body parts. Before "Sex" horny women were
never portrayed as anything but bitches and "hoes".
Before "Sex" men were dogs, ok, well, they
still are.
But "Sex" has explored complex male and
female issues and the frailties of both sexes. I do
admit however, that Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and
Samantha are not your typical New York City girls.
They are successful, have great bodies and wardrobes
(Ok, except for Carrie's weird gypsy-like wardrobe)
and lifestyles to die for. But unlike the all too
typical pabulum we are served up on TV, the writers,
producers and actors on this program were able to
create "magic".
They made us believe in the characters, we feel for
them, care about them, laugh with them, cheer for
and cry with them.
And strangely, in spite of the fantasy world the show
derives its hilarity from, we identify with them.
Sure, maybe it's not anything close to resembling
the life we lead, or the clothes we wear or the less
than slinky bodies we live in, but deep down, we understand
them and we agree with them when, especially they
tell the world to go F--- itself.
Goodbye "Sex", thanks for sharing dirty
talk, sexy clothes, cool men, great friends, New York
City, Cosmos, shoe shopping and straight talk about
women having sex like a man. Thanks for adding terms
like "toxic bachelors' and 'gay straight man'
to our vocabulary.
Thanks for reinforcing the values of the independent,
sexually active woman.
Thank you for showing that there is a sisterhood in
which girlfriends can disagree, love each other, share
intimate moments, giggle and laugh, fight, and grow.
Thank you showing how women develop history in their
relationships, and evolve.
Thanks for the happy ending. For Mr. Big finally
breaking down and admitting that Carrie was "the
one". Thank you for sending Carrie back to Manhattan
on her spike heel Manolos.
Thank you for allowing Miranda to drop her guard and
become a giving, loving woman, wife and mother in
Brooklyn.
Thank you for giving Charlotte a Chinese baby, and
bald Jewish hubby.
Thank you for letting Samantha find love, loyalty
and devotion with a younger man.
We'll miss you, and spend the next six months waiting
for kickoff and watching six years of reruns.
