Week Nine – Politically Incorrect

by Ivette Ricco

November 7, 2005

High maintenance, disrespectful, prima donna, disruptive, mercurial. No we’re not talking about Liza or Paris Hilton, these are some of the terms used to describe former Eagles wide receiver, Terrell Owens, suspended for the season by the Eagles.

On the field NFL drama? Sure we had lots of it this week, but what’s everyone talking about? The most recent chapter in “My Way”, starring Terrell Owens.

Everyone likes to dish the dirt, and now that Romo has retired and written a tell all book, who is left for us to bash but the guy who hasn’t learned to frame his answers in the politically correct manner.
Ask T.O. a question and he answers it, often letting his mouth outrun his brain.
Ask any other star athlete the same question and you will get your typical, politically correct song and dance.

T.O. is the Bill Maher of sports.

Femmefan asks Politically Incorrect, T.O. and Politically Correct, OWR (other wide receiver) these probing questions.

Femmefan: Are the Eagles better without you?

T.O.: No, I’m the best receiver in the league and everybody knows it.
OWR: Well, I think this is a team sport and no man is an island.

FF: Do you play for the money or for the glory?

TO: I play for the money, I grew up dirt poor and now that I have the chance to make a lot of money I intend to make it while I can. What’s wrong with that? This is America, right?
OWR: I love the game and know that my career in the NFL is short; money is secondary to playing the game.

FF: Do you care what the fans think of you?

TO: No, I only care what my grandma thinks of me.
OWR: You need the fans to support you and I appreciate them.

FF: Do you consider yourself “above the law” so to speak?

TO: Not really, but I live my life for me and not for anybody else.
OWR: No, everyone has to be accountable for his or her actions.

FF: If you had to pick a team to play for next season which team would you pick?

TO: The one that will pay me what I’m worth, the team with the best quarterback and the best shot at a Super Bowl, preferably a southern team so I can be close to home.
OWR: I would stay right where I am so I can be with my teammates.

FF: Is the NFL run by a bunch of old, white boys?

TO: Most definitely. If there were black men running the league I wouldn’t be treated this way.
OWR: No, this league is run by good businessmen who just happen to be old and white.

FF: Can you afford to lose $210,000 a game?

TO: Can I afford it? Yes. Do I want to lose it? No. But I’m filing a grievance, man, and I’m going to win my case. This whole thing is bullshit.
OWR: I can’t afford to lose any money; I have a family to take care of.

FF: What will you do with your “mandatory vacation”?

TO: I’m going home and play hoops with my friends.
OWR: I’m going to try and stay in shape and get a job with another team.

T.O. the politically incorrect star, a man who goes through life with a huge chip on his shoulder. Why hasn’t anyone taught him how to keep his ass out of trouble and his opinions to himself and learn to speak “player-speak”?
