A Girl with a pen: Those Virulent Vikings

I hope when members of the Minnesota Vikings set asail aboard two boats on

Lake Minnetonka Oct. 6, they were wearing their Trojans.

That’s because allegations of indecent, lewd and disorderly conduct during those boat rides have since surfaced on dry land.

On Dec. 15, Vikings quarterback Dante Culpepper and three teammates were charged with several misdemeanors after Hennepin County Sheriff Pat McGowan was quoted as saying, “….there was no shortage of inappropriate behavior on both boats.”

Culpepper, currently on injured reserve, Bryant McKinnie, Fred Smoot and Moe Williams each face up to a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count. A Jan. 5, 2006 court date was set for the players.

Crewmembers complained that some people took off their clothes and engaged in public sex acts during the cruise, according to an attorney representing the boats’ owners.

Is that what they meant when they called it “The Love Boat?”

And just how, if at all, did the embarrassment of that Viking Voyage affect the team’s play Sunday (Dec. 18) against Pittsburgh?

“They beat our butts,” said Vikings quarterback Brad Johnson, after the Steelers bested them 18-3 in front of a Minnesota hometown crowd.

Sounds like the Vikings take their lickings and keep coming back for more.
