Football Priorities
By Jeanne McPartland
As I sailed the ocean blue I had to watch football from afar. News was sketchy at best. Now that I have my feet on solid ground again I find that we are already into Week Two of the regular NFL Season.
The “double header” on Monday Night Football was a surprise but with the homeless Saints I guess we can expect anything. Watch out for the early start West Coast Fans. It may become contagious for those of us on the East Coast who like to get to bed early.
As I viewed the Monday Night extravaganza I couldn’t help but hear that the Saints did not feel like a home team at the Meadowlands. How could they? The fans make all the difference and all the noise. After all whose fannies were in those Jersey seats?
I also focused on the new “old” term H back. It would be too easy to call him a running back, a tail back, or a half back all terms we have heard before. But an H back that runs from the Tight End Position to the running back position and back all while blocking is a new one on me. Ladies who are struggling to just learn the game might get confused.
Actually, from one woman to another, the H back they were referring to on Monday Night is Chris Cooley on the Washington Redskins. He is listed as a Tight End on the roster but referred to as an H back later on in the sports sheets. He is basically responsible for the ground game but catches short passes like a tight end. The Full Back, who is supposed be twice as big as the Half Back is supposed to make the holes for the Half Back and block for the Quarterback. Now the H back can do all that and run out for short passes like the tight end. Is this a new position in the making? What do fantasy players do? Don’t get confused ladies. Go with the flow but always ask intelligent questions and keep them on their toes.
Next time you are watching a game, keep an eye out for this position and make your own decision about whether this H back will make the difference between the winners and losers.
Enjoy week three and then we can talk again.
