Football fans, the NFL season is at its midway point.
Some new fans ask why Week Ten is mid-season if the NFL season consists of 16 games. Newbies, this is football time.
Everything in football time is slightly exaggerated.

So although the season consists of 16 weeks of regular play, there are bye weeks, coitus interruptus, that dictate the season lasts more than 16 weeks.

This week I am making my picks and leaving it at that because I want to tell you about New Orleans and the object of their affection, the Saints.
I though that by now the city and the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina would be restored and life would be normal again.
It is sad to say that in this great county of ours, with all the riches we possess and in spite of the hard work of many wonderful, humane and compassionate people, things are still not back to normal in New Orleans.
But, there is one positive in New Orleans, the love affair the City of New Orleans has with its team, the Saints.
The Saints did not reach the Super Bowl in 2006 and yet to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

By Rhonda Reigstad

Basketball is just getting warmed up (already?) and the National Football League season is at midseason. ESPN’s sports trivia guru, Howie Schwab, gives us his take on both in this newest Q&A.

How exciting has the NFL season been for you so far?
I suppose that depends on the team you follow and what they are doing at the halfway mark.

There are clearly some front runners as we enter week nine.
The Saints look like the cream of the NFC crop.
The Colts also are right up there in the AFC.

But they will be challenged and perhaps by some unlikely candidates.
This week I am making my picks and leaving it at that.

Boo!
No that's not the sound of a spooky ghost on Halloween.
It's the cascade of boos emanating from disenchanted and "betrayed" Raiders fans.
Raiders fans are known for their zany costumes and somewhat scary fans in the Black Hole.

Good golly Miss Molly, the country is in a recession and the Swine Flu has been declared a national emergency.
Bad news for most everyone.
But from a football fan's perspective, all these downturns can be forgotten on Sunday, if your team wins.
I won't even speak to the Fantasy Football fans, they are, in my opinion, cheating on their spouses (teams) when they become fantasy players and therefore football mercenaries.
