Notre Dame Ranked #1 in BCS

Notre Dame has moved up in the BCS rankings all year long, and after Saturday’s win against Wake Forest, beating them 38-0, the Fighting Irish is the only team that has not been defeated. Oregon lost against Stanford in overtime, and Kansas State lost against Baylor, leaving Notre Dame as the only undefeated team. If any critics had any doubts about the Irish, wondering if they deserved to be ranked so high in the standings, wondering if they deserved to be considered for the BCS championship game, Saturday’s win should have convinced them, improving to 11-0 for the first time since 1989.

The Fighting Irish started off the 2012 college football season with a great victory in Ireland, and ever since then, each week they have played hard, stayed strong, and never gave up hope, silencing the harsh critics, and won each game, each week, even doing so in overtime. A lot of critics might still think Georgia, Alabama, or even Florida deserve to play in the BCS game over the Irish, but if Notre Dame can win next week against USC, they will not only be 12-0, but should be guaranteed that great honor of playing for the BCS title.

It could not have been a more perfect finish for Notre Dame seniors, playing at home in South Bend, winning on senior day, only one team stands in their way of a perfect, undefeated season, and after USC lost Saturday against UCLA, the Irish have a great chance of beating them next week. And as for the Heisman Watch, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o, played another fantastic game, his final home game of the season. The Irish’s victory over Wake Forest should put him in the front line for the Heisman Trophy, and at the top of everyone’s list for next years draft pick.

Coach Brian Kelly deserves a lot of credit; he has transformed this Irish team into a powerhouse team. Quarterback Everett Golson threw three touchdown passes, and Notre Dame dominated on both offense and defense, not allowing Wake Forest to score a single point. The Irish can smile about their BCS prospects, their unblemished record for the season, and their Heisman Trophy contender, as fans can wear their Notre Dame t-shirts proudly with pride, knowing their team is now ranked number 1!
