Tebow is Now a Bronco

Tebow is Now a Bronco

By Davin Colten

One of the best quarterbacks in college football, Florida Gators Tim Tebow was drafted to the Denver Broncos during the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the Broncos second pick, drafted in the 25th position. Unlike many people who did not think Tim Tebow would be drafted during the first round, I believed he would be. Who wouldn’t want an incredible quarterback of Tim Tebow’s caliber and moral compass, especially with all the bad press the NFL is getting lately with players being suspended and going to jail for gun and sex charges, and other crimes. It’s nice to have a player with good moral and family values for a change. Tim Tebow is a role model kids can definitely look up to!

I respect the fact that Tebow wanted to stay at home with his friends and family rather than attend the draft, wanting to be with the people that supported him all those years playing in college football. Surrounded by family members and friends, Tebow seemed genuinely excited about being drafted by the Denver Broncos. And in a recent interview given at Dove Valley, home of the Denver Broncos headquarters, Tim Tebow looked sharp in a dark suit and orange tie while talking to reporters answering numerous questions.

I think Tebow will be a great addition to this team. He will be exactly what they need to get into the playoffs this year. The Broncos have been a bad team for a long time, trading Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton did not help. Getting Brady Quinn seemed a good start in the right direction, but now with Tim Tebow, the Denver Broncos finally have a star quarterback on their team, someone that could achieve greatness and become the next John Elway. Tim Tebow believes in himself, he believes he can do anything he sets his mind to, and I am inclined to believe him. Just look at what he did for the Florida Gators, look at what he achieved in college football, that is all the proof I need.

The Heisman Trophy winner who stands 6’3 weighing 235lbs, stands tall, with a great smile on his face and a positive attitude that makes you want to root for this guy. He actually makes you want to watch pro football again, not just college football. He gets you excited about the game. And ticket sales this football season in Colorado will definitely sell out, including the pre-season games. I myself want to see what Tebow can do. I know there is no I in team, but when it comes to the great Tim Tebow, having him as quarterback, could mean the difference between winning and losing a season.

Other quarterbacks that played against Tim Tebow in college did not do so well in the draft, except for one, Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford. Surprisingly he was drafted not only in the first round, but the overall number 1 draft pick of 2010. Bradford was picked up by St. Louis. Then there was Jimmy Clausen from Notre Dame. A lot of people thought he was going to be the first quarterback drafted and in the first round, but neither happened. Clausen was finally selected in the second round by Carolina in the 48th position. And last, but by far one of the best quarterbacks in college football besides Tebow, is Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. What happened to him you might ask? I thought for sure he was going to get picked up in the first round of the draft, or at least the second, but sadly and very surprisingly, McCoy was picked up in the third round by Cleveland in the 85th position. All four men should have been first round draft picks, but I guess two out of four isn’t so bad, except if you are Colt McCoy.

Sometimes the draft can be very brutal to players, like it has been with Colt McCoy. The same thing reminds me of when Brady Quinn was expected to be drafted in the first round, and waited and waited till the Browns finally picked him up, only to sit on the bench and waste his youth and talent, and then finally get traded to the Broncos where he might actually get to be a starting quarterback. But now those dreams look bleak too, since the Broncos just drafted Tim Tebow, and will most certainly be grooming him to be starting quarterback, and Quinn will be sitting on the bench, once again. But I guess it’s just great to be drafted, well almost, but not for some players. But why would you put Tebow on the bench when he could win you the game? Mark Sanchez started his rookie season as starting quarterback for the Jets, and look where he got them, all the way to the playoffs. They didn’t keep him on the bench, they used his talent and youth, and if Coach McDaniels is smart he will do the same with Tebow. After all, Tim Tebow not only put the Denver Broncos back on the map, he might just lead them to a long, sought after, Super Bowl!

  • ‘Fraid to say it but Tim Tebow will dive for a first down in the NFL and have his head swiftly removed by a lunging Ray Lewis. Game Over.

Loved the article. I’m a Denver Broncos Fan. I have season tickets, so yeah, I’m excited to see what Tim Tebow can do. He already has everyone talking about the Broncos as a contender for the playoffs. Now that’s something, more than previous and current quarterbacks were capable of doing. He was incredible in college football, so if he can play half as good in professional, then yeah, I’m happy he is a Denver Bronco.
