Boo! Cash for Clunker

BOO

BOO

Boo!
No that’s not the sound of a spooky ghost on Halloween.
It’s the cascade of boos emanating from disenchanted and “betrayed” Raiders fans.
Raiders fans are known for their zany costumes and somewhat scary fans in the Black Hole.
Raider Fan

Raider Fan

What Raider fans are not known for is the recent vocal outpouring of boos from the half empty stands in Oakland this season.

I am not, I repeat, not, a fan of the Raiders.
They are the across the bay “rivals” of my beloved SF 49ers.
We may not play in the same conference, but there is no love lost between 49er and Raider fans.
I am absolutely baffled by the way this team has played this season.
Was that a mirage on opening day? They played well and came very close to beating the Chargers.
We now realize that the Chargers aren’t the AFC West powerhouse we expected. Still the Raiders can look good one week and absolutely horrific the next.

Unlike the Rams, Titans, Panthers and Browns, the Raiders actually have talent. In spite of that  talent this team can not find a way to play a complete game.
The upset over the Eagles was an anomoly.
The most disappointing player and the player fans are calling out is the former number one pick, Quarterback JaMarcus Russell.
Cash for Clunker

Cash for Clunker

It is common knowledge that the team does what Al Davis wants it to.
Coaches are at the mercy of Mr. Davis, as they reverently call him.
Davis’ stranglehold on the franchise will continue to prevent the Raiders from attracting a quality head coach.
Poor Tom Cable.  He seems to lack any control over critical decisions.
If Big Al wants JaMarcus to play and earn his mega bucks, then that is what will happen.
JaMarcus has a cannon of an arm, but he lacks the basics needed to succeed as an NFL quarterback, good footwork,  decision making and leadership skills.

The talk here in the SF Bay Area is that Russell is unmotivated, lazy, and likes his food a little too much.
Cash for Clunker.
It’s  Trick time for the Raiders on Halloween.
Hill_Smith_thumb
My 49ers are 3-3 and have a brutal game against the Colts on Sunday.
It is not exactly the way Alex Smith would have planned his “comeback” had he been given an option.
But as the say, it is what it is.
Time for Coach Sing and Raye to open up the playbook and dust off the passing game.
The entire league knows Coach Sing wants to play smash mouth football and run, run, run. The problem is the O-Line is not getting it done.
Alex Smith is a lot more mobile than Shaun Hill and can move out of the pocket to avoid pressure.
Alex’s bug-a-boo has been bad decision making and throwing interceptions, something Shaun Hill did not do.
As a Niners fan I hope that Alex Smith he has matured and learned enough riding the bench to avoid those problems.
Best case scenario for the Niners against the Colts?
Put up at least 17 points early then run the ball and let the D control the game. But that is a really tall order against Manning.
I watched Peyton say how the Niners were a good team and a real challenge.
Come on Peyton, how could you say that with a straight face?
Week 7 record 7-6
Season Record 56-33

Week 8 picks
Broncos @ Ravens
The undefeated Broncos are the surprise of 2009.
The Ravens touted D has not playeed up to their standards.
It’s time for the Ravens to put up a fight and let Ray Ray go after Orton.
Pick Ravens

Texans @ Bills
The Texans have been on fire lately.  The Bills are still a big question mark.
I like the Bills at home.
Pick Bills

Giants @ Eagles
What in the world is happening to the Giants?
I have no faith in the Eagles, they just don’t seem consistent.
This game has playoff implications. I can’t see the G-Men losing this one.
Pick G-Men

Dolphins @ Jets
Another intriguing division match-up and one that can go either way.
But I’m going with the home team.
Pick Jets
49ers @ Colts
The odds are against the Niners. In every possible way.
Yet, stranger things have happened.
This is my Halloween Treat!
Pick Niners
Browns @ Bears
The Bears are an enigma. They play great then they stink up the joint.
They should be able to put up points at home against the Browns.
Pick Bears

Seahawks @ Cowboys
The Seahawks are having injury issues again. The Cowboys are starting to rev their engines.
Pick Cowboys

Rams @ Lions
It’s time for the Rams to finally get a W!
Pick Rams
Raiders @ Chargers
This is always a good game. If the Chargers want to try and keep pace with the Broncos they must win this one.
The Raiders must not let Russell try to win this game with his arm.
Run Raiders run!
Pick Chargers

Jaguars @ Titans
Oh boy. Jeff Fisher was pressured to start Vince Young in place of Kerry Collins. Jeff Fisher must know something we don’t.
Otherwise why would he stubbornly keep Collins in when the team is losing every week?
I don’t see the Titans getting off the shnide against a hungry Jaguars team.
Pick Jaguars

Vikings @ Packers
Cheeseheads Unite!
It is Homecoming Day for Numero Quatro.
Packers fans are the epitome of loyal football fans. They loved Favre without reservation for 16 season.
It was Ted Thompson who didn’t feel all love for Favre.
Aaron Rodgers is playing very well, but he isn’t #4.
I am going with my heart not my head.
Pick Packers
Panthers @ Cardinals
The Panthers are another one of those teams that makes you scratch your head and ask, what is wrong with you?
They have their work cut out for them as they face the high scoring Cardinals, who, by the way, have an improved D and have found a running game. Spooky stuff for DelHomme.
Pick Cardinals
Falcons @ Saints
Great division match-up on MNF.
The Saints look like the most balanced team in the NFL.
The Falcons would love to upset the Saints in New Orleans.
I can’t see that happening.
Pick Saints

It was interesting and moving to hear Brett speak about the Packer fans and the relationships with players he had in Green Bay.
I know that when Joe Montana went to Kansas City we still revered him here in SF.
But if he played against us team loyalty prevailed.
It is too bad that Brett’s career has become such a sideshow.
His talent, passion and guts are unquestionable.
But Packer fans seem to feel that he is the second coming of Benedict Arnold.
The “fanatic” in me understands how they feel.

Well G-Men fan. Your G-Men are in a bg time slump.
The race in the NFC East is heating up.
You had a record of 7-6 this week, so did I.
I am still hopeful that my Niners will win the NFC West.
The Cardinals lost to the Panthers, and the Niners came ever so close to beating the undefeated Colts.
It just another drama filled NFL season.
Two undefeated teams, the Colts and the Saints. The Saint are looking soo good!
I’ll make my picks later this week.
By the way, Yanks 3-2 after the Phillies staged a comback last night.
I see a Yankee victory in Da Bronx!!!

  • Cheryl says:

This lifelong Packer fan wants nothing more than Brett Favre to get a victory at Lambeau… the way other fans have behaved this past week in Wisconsin makes me almost ashamed to be a cheesehead today.

  • William (aka GMenfan) says:

Well some good news, bad news, and unrelated football great news. First unrelated football news, my Yankees are ahead of the Phillies 2-1 in the World Series with CC Sabathia pitching tonight. So that pretty much seals up tonight’s game. Now back to football and good news, I improved my previous record of 6-8 to 9-4 bringing my overall to 71-32. The bad news my G-Men suffered another loss. They need to snap out of this slump and quickly. Now to my picks for week 8.
