NFL Picks Week 7

My Crystal Ball
Ouch!
Good golly Miss Molly, the country is in a recession and the Swine Flu has been declared a national emergency.
Bad news for most everyone.
But from a football fan’s perspective, all these downturns can be forgotten on Sunday, if your team wins.
I won’t even speak to the Fantasy Football fans, they are, in my opinion, cheating on their spouses (teams) when they become fantasy players and therefore football mercenaries.
Football fans with an emotional investment in their teams can ill afford the triple whammy, bad economy, swine flu and a losing record.
Unfortunately, there are football fans out there in football land who are getting whacked by all three of these conditions.
Tennessee Titans 0-6
I am a member of the Jeff Fisher fan club. But his team looks less than mediocre this season.
Jeff has kept a stiff upper mustache covered lip throughout the abysmal 0-6 start.
Then Jeff displayed an ironic sense of humor by wearing a Peyton Manning jersey and proclaiming he wanted to feel like a winner.
I think it speaks volumes for how he feels about his team this season. In my opinion this may be Jeff’s not so subtle way of telling his team to step up.
It may also be a hint of things to come for Jeff.
He might be ready for a bigger role on a bigger stage in the NFL.
Tampa Bay 0-6
The quarterback carousel keeps spinning in Tampa.
Rookie head coach Raheem Morris has done nothing to quell the dissatisfaction fans felt with the offense under Jon Gruden.
This team has many miles to travel before they improve.
Sunday they face a potent Patriots team across the pond.
Keep those hankies at the ready Bucs fans.
St. Louis Rams 0-6
The once most prolific offense “the greatest show on turf” has deteriorated into the “lamest team on earth”.
There are too many issues on this team to isolate just one area.
It is time for a complete overhaul.
This team is listed as one of the 7 possible candidates being targeted for the proposed new stadium in Los Angeles.
Sports fans in SoCal will not pay to see any team that looks as bad as the Rams of today.
Detroit Lions 1-5
There have been signs of improvement in Detroit.
But the progress of the team and their first round pick quarterback’s injury has stalled their progress.
Kansas City Chiefs 1-5
Hard to tell whether or not this team is ready to take the next step.
They seem to be ready to win a few more games and surprise a few more teams.
I think they will shock a lot of teams in the AFC West this season.
Hope springs eternal.
Cleveland Browns 1-5
The Eric Mangini era is off to a shaky start.
The quarterback carousel is still spinning, the best offensive player, Braylon Edwards was given a ticket out of town and the team came down with the flu.
Pretty hard to keep the faith when you’re a Browns fan.
Hanging by a thread:
Oakland 2-4
The Raiders manned up last week and were all over McNabb.
The defense is the strongest area of the team and they are going to have to rely on the D to keep them in games while they wait (fans can you wait?) for Russell to emerge.
Al Davis, how would you like to move the team back to LA and get a new stadium?
Washington Redskins 2-4
Stop it already. This team is making the Raiders look like a normal franchise.
Miami Dolphins 2-3
Live or die by the Wildcat?
San Diego Chargers 2-3
What the hey? The Bolts D is looking slow.
Seattle Seahawks 2-4
The Hawks are looking like pigeons.
Carolina Panthers 2-3
Is the John Fox – Jake DelHomme era coming to an end?
Buffalo Bills 2-4
TO. See what happens when you don’t know when to shut it!
You end up in Buffalo.
Week 6 record 9-5
Season Record 49-27
Week 7 Picks
Packers @ Cleveland
Aaron Rodgers should grate the Browns.
Pick Packers
Chargers @ Chiefs
Come on man.
You should be reallly pissed off after that performance against the Broncos.
This is a division game the Chargers really need to win and win big.
Pick Chargers
Colts @ Rams
The mercy rule should be applied here.
Pick Colts
Patriots vs. Bucs
Another game where the mercy rule should apply.
Pick Pats
Vikings @ Steelers
This is going to be a good game.
The Vikings will not be undefeated after this game.
Pick Steelers
Niners @ Texans
A statement game for both teams.
The Texans keep it done getting behind Matt Shaub and their D.
The Niners offense needs to score on offense and give their D a rest.
The Niners defense will face a big test.
Coach Sing should have his team ready for some redemption after the embarrassing loss to the Falcons.
Pick Niners
Bills @ Panthers
Panthers at home. I like the Cats.
Pick Panthers
Jets @ Raiders
Tough one.
Mark Sanchez is learning his craft in the school of hard knocks.
The Raiders D has the players to school him this week.
Pick Raiders
Bears @ Bengals
Very close call here.
But since Cutler just got a pay raise I like him to light up the Bengals.
Pick Bears
Falcons @ Cowboys
This is an important statement game for both teams.
Can the Cowboys stop the Falcons offense?
Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones sure hope so.
Pick Cowboys
Saints @ Dolphins
Another tough game to call.
Yes, I know, the Saints are a machine.
But I smell an upset.
Pick Dolphins
Cardinals @ Giants
The G-Men are pretty pissed off after the spanking the Saints gave them last week.
The Cardinals’ game is all about Warner and Fitzgerald.
Expect the G-Men to blitz Warner, get him out of his game and force turnovers.
Pick Giants
Eagles @ Redskins
This can go either way. But if McNabb and Vick et al can’t beat the deadskins, they are not who we thought they were.
Pick Eagles
Byes: Ravens, Broncos, Lions, Jaguars, Seahawks, Titans

Yes it was a tough week and the G-Men’s loss, at home, to the Cardinals was really a surprise.
Is Eli’s foot bothering him? Or are the G-Men overrated?
I was down in the dumps as I watched my Niners end the first half against the Texans down 21-0.
Enter Alex Smith.
I don’t know if he will be “the guy” we need to lead this team on offense.
But as with every team, the NFL catches up with you.
They caught up with the Niners after they went 3-1. Their loss to the Falcons showed the league that if you clogged the running lanes you would stop their one dimensional offense.
Shaun Hill is fine with lots of time, but the O-Line is not doing a good job with him behind center. He is carfeul with the ball but when you fall behind and can’t convert third downs, you’re dead meat.
When you get a mobile QB that can escape the pressure and throw the long pass, to Vernon Davis, Crabtree, Bruce and Morgan, you might be able to run the ball, and you might be able to score a few points. That will allow the D to do its thing.
That’s what will happen in a perfect world.
This can work as long as Alex Smith doesn’t throw interceptions.
But now he has to face the Colts in Indy, after riding the bench for two years!
What a way to get tossed back into the frying pan!
I keep telling my husband, who is a glass half empty kind of guy, that we have to be optimisitic. That this team is still a few years aways from greatness and we can only expect baby steps. He doesn’t want to wait. He wants us to win, Now.
The Niners have to contninue to build on the talent they have. If Smith isn’t “The Guy” maybe our next draft pick will be.
Send me your picks for this week and let’s see how we do.
Well I had a miserable week of football last week. My Giants got manhandled by Drew Brees and the Saints down in the bayou. And my record for last week was a terrible 6-8. Time to shake it off however as there is a new week to call.
