Oh the agony of defeat!
Another last minute save by Brett Favre-lous. Why did you not stay retired?
The Favre Factor ruined my football fun on Sunday.
But I am a glass half full person. So I did not hang my head, I did not throw a chair at the TV, I did not drown my sorrows in bottle of wine (well I did a little bit).
Instead I took the reflective and positive approach to the stunning loss.
I looked at the positives.
This was not a division loss.
Vernon Davis came of age.
Shaun Hill played well as did Glen Coffee in place of Frank Gore.
Our defense was outstanding.
They played as a team against the odds and in a hostile and loud place, where they came very close to beating the Vikings.
They held Favre to one offensive touchdown, until, the last 10 seconds.

Here in the Bay Area, Niner fans are “all in” when it comes to Mike Singletary’s coaching and his smash mouth football philosophy. Quite a change from the West Coast offensive style of Bill Walsh which 49ers fans still remember and revere.
Playing a good team like this, in their house, bodes well for the Niners.

Let’s give it up for the  NFL.
No other sport can provide so much drama and excitement in one day of action.
You just never know what will happen on any given Sunday.
As they say, it ain’t over til it’s over.

My week three record: 10-6

Week 4 Picks

TAMPA BAY @ WASHINGTON – Pick Washington
Two awful teams. The Bucs have benched Leftwich.
Pretty tough sledding for the new Bucs coach.
The Redskins just can not find the right formula.
But they can beat the Bucs.

BALTIMORE @ NEW ENGLAND – Pick Ravens
I’m picking the upset here.
The Patriots are favored at home and it will be a close game.
If the Ravens’ defense can apply constant pressure on Tom Terrific they will get the win.

DETROIT @ CHICAGO – Pick Bears
Back to reality for the Lions.

OAKLAND @ HOUSTON – Pick Texans
I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel for the Raidersafter they played so well in game one against the Chargers.
But apparently that was a light from a BART train heading right for JaMarcus Russell.
If there is a franchise that epitomizes drama, the Raiders are it.
Their coach may be facing felony assault charges.
Their number one pick QB is regressing instead of progressing.
Their defense which seemed, improved has taken a step back.
The Texans should be able to outscore the Raiders on Sunday.

SEATTLE @ INDIANAPOLIS – Pick Colts
Matt Hasslebeck is out with a broken rib.
Now they face the red hot Colts in Indy.
The Colts should handle the Hawks easily.

NYGIANTS @ KANSAS CITY – Pick Giants
The best team in football faces one of the worst.
Enuf said.

CINCINNATI @ CLEVELAND – Pick Bengals
The Mangini era in Cleveland is off to a very rocky start.
He plays head games with his players and his quarterbacks.
It’s not the way to motivate a team.
The Bengals have a bit of their swagger back and should control the action.

TENNESSEE @ JACKSONVILLE – Pick Titans
Come On Jeff Fisher, you handsome devil you.
Do something. It’s time to get a win.

BUFFALO @ MIAMI – Pick Bills
Chad Pennington, poor guy, always behind the eight ball.
Last season the Dolphins were amazing.
But they are struggling mightily this season.
Now they have to try and win with Chad Henne. Ouch.
Let’s see if TO lives up to the Bills expectations.

NYJETS @ NEW ORLEANS – Pick Saints
Here is a great match-up.
The number one offense (Saints) against Sanch-ize and the J-E-T-S who are off to a 3-0 start.
I like Drew Brees and the Saints to beat the Jets in a shoot-out on the Bayou.

DALLAS @ DENVER – Pick Dallas
This is where the rubber meets the road for the Broncos.
Can they keep winning? They are a real surprise given their dramatic off-season.
Just goes to show you how much the experts know.
The Cowboys are still hard to gauge.
Romo has been blasted in the press. One year he’s the King the next year the Goat.
This game is pivotal for both teams.

ST LOUIS @ SAN FRANCISCO – Pick Niners
My Niners are missing their “bell cow” Frank Gore.
But they have got their Red Bull back-up, Glen Coffee to carry the rock.
These Niners are tough guys. They are not going to give up in any game.
They are probably pretty pissed about  last week’s game and ready to take it out on their division rivals, the Rams.
The Rams may be missing Mark Bulger at quarterback. His replacement is former Ravens QB,  Kyle Boller.
I’ll be in stands on Sunday cheering on the Niners as they improve to 3-1 and take a two game lead in the NFC West.

SAN DIEGO @ PITTSBURGH – Pick Chargers
Another interesting match-up.
Both these teams need a win because neither is playing at a high level.
The Steelers sure don’t look like Super Bowl Champions thus far.
And the Chargers, early Super Bowl favorites, are a little off as well.

GREEN BAY @ MINNESOTA – Pick Green Bay
I predict an upset.
The Packers will exact some revenge for the way Brett has “dissed” the organization.
The Packers will play their best game so far and dog Favre all day long.
He will not get another W in Minnesota this week.
(Are my sour grapes showing?)

 Get your popcorn ready!

I like the Pack, but Rodgers is getting killed behind that O line.
I hope nthey fix that and soon!

  • femmefan says:

Hey G-Men and Niners are playing tough football.
I am soooo sick of Favre.
    Hey Favre Favre-You!
I had a miserable week in my picks, 8-6.
    Terrible!!!
But as long as my Niners keep winning i’m good.

  • Rhonda Reigstad says:

Well, Ivette, you came close on your Packers/Vikings prediction. Too many sacks on Rodgers and a tough offensive and defensive line for the Vikings did it in for my Packers.

A week off for the Pack came at the right time, no doubt about it. They know where they went wrong and what they need to work on. McCarthy and company will see to it in this off week.

  • William (aka GMenfan) says:

Seems you had a tough break last week going against Farve. It’s ok though They still held their own. The 9ers are looking good and so are my Giants. 3-0 and it’s only going to get better. Titans v.s. Jaguars- Pick the Titans
Raiders v.s. Texans- Pick the Texans
